Here’s a few pictures at the finish line of the 2022 Swim to the Moon in Michigan! RCT Athlete Alex Johnson (pink cap) raced 1.2mi in open water.
When we started out, 100yds freestyle was difficult – and he was signed up to race 2100yds! We worked on the stroke first, then progressed into a more methodical training plan to prepare physically for a long swim.
Open water swimming carries a few unique challenges. Sighting, to ensure that you stay on course, and the potential for contact with other swimmers as well. These are things that, like technique and endurance, have to be trained. Alex improved considerably over the course of 3 months!
